Composting

Composting is a huge piece to moving a community toward zero waste. At least one-third of the municipal solid waste stream is organic materials – specifically, food waste and yard waste. Every year, approximately 142,000 tons of Baltimore City food and yard waste is incinerated at WIN Waste (BRESCO).

While there are some small-but-mighty community composting efforts, there is a major need for a larger facility. The closest one is in Prince George’s County – 40 miles away.

Right now, the city is running a pilot program for food scraps drop-off. Check out the locations below!
